Aviation. Motorcycles. Mountain climbing. All these activities and more can be a vehicle
for adventure.
I have always looked for adventure....
When I was four years old, I climbed up on top of the big commercial greenhouses next door (and got stuck).
When I was ten, I rode my 10-speed into downtown Portland, a distance of over thirty miles one way. When I was thirteen,
I took a bus to San Francisco and got lost for the day. When I was eighteen, I hitched from Portland to the Bay Area
and back. I've walked the spine of the Cascades the length of Oregon. I am a licensed pilot, although I have never seen
fit to jump out of one.
Well, I'm forty three right now and I am still looking for adventure. I suppose that the day I stop
yearning to see what is over the next hill will be the day I die, or at least the day I begin to die.
These days, most of my adventuring is done on motorcycles. Specifically, dual-sport (or what used
to be called enduro) motorcycles. Bikes that are capable of travel on highways or off road. On a bike
like this, I can ride on the highway to my destination and take off on trails into and over the mountains.....and around here,
I can go for days and days in the mountains if I want to.
